  1. All Hawai‘i residents can use the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline to help them quit smoking, vaping, or using tobacco of any kind. To get free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT; patches, gum, or lozenges), you must be 18 years of age or older. We also encourage you to talk with your doctor about using NRT.
     
    If you’re 17 years old or younger, the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline has a program just for you. My Life, My Quit offers 5 sessions with a trained coach by text, e-chat, or phone. Get started by texting “Start My Quit” to 36072, calling 1-855-891-9989, or visiting MyLifeMyQuit.org. Complete the program via phone and receive incentives!
  2. The Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline program is 100% FREE, including nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and shipping costs.
  3. Nicotine patches, gum, lozenges, or a combination of patch and gum or patch and lozenge is 100% FREE. The amount you receive is based on your insurance type:
    • 2-week supply for private insurance or Medicare
    • 4-week supply for Medicaid or MedQuest
    • 8-week supply for uninsured
    You also may be able to obtain some quit medications at no cost through your health plan. To find out specifics, enroll now.

  5. No, you can quit without a coach using our website and other tools in our “online” program. However, people who use coaching are more likely to be successful. Learn more program options  here.
  6. You can work with your coach over the phone and get more support by email, text, or e-chat. You and your coach will work out a quit plan that works for you. You can reach out to your coach for support, to share victories, and discuss slips 24 hours, 7 days a week.
  7. Quitting tobacco is hard. Research shows that the better prepared you are, the more successful you’ll be. A quit plan helps you map out when to quit, who will support you, what challenges you may face, and how you’ll meet them. Having a plan helps you deal with setbacks and stay on your path to being tobacco free.

    Our counselors are trained in the unique needs of LGBTQ+, Native Hawaiians, pregnant and postpartum women, people with mental health concerns, youth and young adults, and others. We’re compassionate, understanding, and ready to help. We’ll work with you to choose the best quit strategies for you.
  9. Our typical program is 5 coaching calls. If you reach the end of your program and need additional support calls, we can discuss options for continuing, or help you find other resources.
  10. Yes, our coaches are happy to share ways that you can support your friend or ‘ohana as they become tobacco-free.
